What we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

Dog Ppl is run by Laura Bosworth, a sole trader based in Cheshire, trading as Dog Ppl. Laura is the data controller for the personal data described here, which means she decides how it's used and is responsible for looking after it.

Questions about your data? Email hello@dogppl.uk.

What we collect

If you join the pack as a dog owner: your first name, your dog's name, your email address and your postcode area. We also record when you signed up and the IP address you signed up from, so we have proof you asked to hear from us.

If you apply to list your business: your name, business name, email, phone number, the services you offer, your area and postcode, your website and social media links, your Google or Facebook review links, a description of your business and any member offer you add.

If you have a partner account: your login email and password. Passwords are scrambled before they're saved, so nobody at Dog Ppl can see them. If you message us through the "Sniffing for answers?" form, we keep your name and message so we can reply.

Payments: partner subscriptions are paid through Stripe. We see your name, email and which plan you're on. We never see or store your full card details.

Listing activity: we count how many times people tap call, website, directions and social buttons on each listing, so partners can see what their listing is doing for them. These are totals per listing per month and don't identify you. So that one person tapping five times doesn't count as five, we briefly keep a scrambled version of your IP address. It can't be turned back into your IP address, and it's cleared automatically after about 30 minutes.

Security: to stop people guessing passwords, we limit login attempts using a scrambled version of your IP address. Our web host also keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and browser types, to keep the site secure.

Why we use it

  • To send you Dog Ppl emails, like news about Dog Ppl near you and member offers. We only do this because you asked us to (consent). Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To set up and run partner listings and subscriptions, including your welcome emails, your monthly listing report and tips to get more from your listing. We need this to provide the service you signed up for (contract), and it helps us run Dog Ppl well (legitimate interests).
  • To show your business on dogppl.uk. If you're a partner, the details you choose to put on your listing are public. That's the point of a listing.
  • To reply when you contact us (legitimate interests).
  • To keep the site secure and count listing activity (legitimate interests).
  • To measure our Facebook and Instagram ads, but only if you say yes to cookies (consent).
  • To keep business and tax records (legal obligation).

Who we share it with

We never sell your data. We use a small number of trusted services to run Dog Ppl. They only use your data to provide their service to us:

  • Unlimited Web Hosting (UK): hosts the website, forms and our hello@dogppl.uk email.
  • MailerLite (EU): sends our emails and stores email sign-ups.
  • Stripe: takes partner payments and runs the billing portal.
  • Google: provides the fonts on our site (your browser fetches them from Google, which shares your IP address with Google) and the star ratings shown on listings.
  • Meta: runs the Meta Pixel, only if you say yes to cookies. Meta may also use this data under its own privacy policy.
  • Google Analytics (only if you say yes): if you tap "Fine by me", we also load Google Analytics. It tells us how many people visit, which pages they look at and how they found us, so we can make the site better. Google sets cookies whose names start with _ga, which last up to two years. If you tap "No thanks", or ignore the banner, it never loads.
  • Awin (affiliate network): when you click an offer marked “Ad” in Good boy treats, you go through an Awin link to the brand’s website. Awin and the brand record that the visit came from Dog Ppl, so we can be paid a commission if you buy. This happens on their sites, under their own privacy and cookie policies, not on dogppl.uk. We don’t pass them your name or email.

Some of these companies may handle data outside the UK, for example in the US. When they do, it's protected by approved safeguards, such as the UK's international data transfer agreements or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

When you click through to a partner's website, phone them or message them, you're dealing with that business directly, and their own privacy policy applies.

How long we keep it

  • Owner sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Partner applications that don't go ahead: deleted within 12 months.
  • Partner accounts and listings: for as long as you're a partner. Billing records are then kept for 6 years, because UK tax rules require it.
  • Messages to us: for up to 2 years after we last hear from you.
  • Listing activity counts: kept as totals, which don't identify anyone.

Cookies

We keep cookies to a minimum:

  • Partner login (needed): when a partner logs in, we set one cookie, called dogppl_acc, to keep them logged in. It's deleted when you close your browser.
  • Your cookie choice (needed): your browser remembers whether you said yes or no to cookies, so we don't keep asking. This is stored on your device and isn't sent to us.
  • Meta Pixel (only if you say yes): if you tap "Fine by me" on our cookie banner, we load the Meta Pixel. It tells us when someone who saw one of our Facebook or Instagram ads visits the site or signs up. If you tap "No thanks", or ignore the banner, it never loads.

You can change your mind any time using the "Cookies" link at the bottom of every page. Counting calls and website clicks on listings never uses cookies.

We don’t set any affiliate tracking on dogppl.uk itself. If you click an offer, Awin and the brand may set their own on their websites, under their own policies.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • send you a copy of the data we hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete your data
  • stop or limit how we use it, or object to how we use it
  • send your data to you or another service in a usable format

If we're using your data because you said yes, you can withdraw that at any time, for example by unsubscribing or changing your cookie choice. Email hello@dogppl.uk and we'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page. If it's a big change, we'll email you.
