A rough guide to typical local prices. Every business sets its own, so always check before you book.
Home boarders look after a small number of dogs in their own home, so dogs keep a normal routine of walks, sofa time and company. Kennels can take more dogs and suit some dogs well, especially ones who are happier with their own space. Both should be licensed.
In Cheshire and Staffordshire, home boarding is usually around £30 to £45 a night, and kennels around £20 to £35 a night. Prices go up at Christmas and in the summer holidays, so book early.
Yes. In England, anyone boarding dogs as a business, including in their own home, must hold a licence from their local council under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) Regulations 2018. Ask to see it.
Most boarders ask for up-to-date vaccinations, and many also ask for kennel cough protection, flea and worm treatment, and a trial stay first.
